Sentimental Projects

Molas are a traditional textile craft made from layers of colored fabric that are stitched and cut using appliqué techniques to create patterns. My friend, Patty, had some for 40 years, and her mother had them before her. She trusted me to turn them into this messenger bag, so she could enjoy them every day

A co-worker, Melissa, had a lot of silk scarfs that belonged to her late mother-in-law. Both women are native Colliervillians, so she had me turn the scarfs into this wall art depicting the Collierville town square.

My neighbor, Sam, is a huge Peanuts fan. He was able to get hold of some vintage bedsheets, and now he has this cool computer bag.

Crewel embroidery is a type of surface embroidery using wool. The technique is at least a thousand years old. My friend, Maxine, had me turn one her mother had made into a pillow. Now instead of the piece being tucked away in a drawer for safe keeping, it is on display in her beautiful home.

My mother was no longer able to wear one of her favorite shirts because of a hole. I was able to work around the flaw and create this handy bag.

My cousin, Sarah, entrusted me to make this messenger bag using a shirt she wore often. It had been passed down to her from her father. I was very nervous to start cutting it apart; however, the result was just what she wanted.

My friend, Ann, was so sad to get a stain on one of her favorite dresses. Thankfully, she can now use it while on one of her many trips or just around town.

My friend, Crystal, lived in Puerto Rico for a while. The hot weather called for this cool dress. Now she can use it to tote her shopping around stateside.

This was one of my favorite dresses. When I could no longer fit into it (because life happens :), I turned it into this cute purse.
